Temple Plot Sanmon
Sanmon (The Temple Gate)
(designated as a national treasure in 1997)

The building was erected in 1645 and was rebuilt in the Manji era. In 1746, the temple gate was burned down, however the building that still stands today was completed in 1820. The reconstruction efforts were led by the 24th generation of the Yamigami family. The gate was designed using Japanese mathematics, always keeping a sense of harmony in mind. It is often said that eaves of the temple paint a heroic picture as they rise into the sky.
